Selling a Coin or Collection?
We Buy Coins
Whether you’re looking to sell gold bullion, rare numismatic coins, or collections passed down through generations, we provide a fair, professional, and hassle-free service every step of the way. From a single coin to an entire collection, we would like to make you an offer.
Simply contact us for a free coin appraisal. Once your collection is assessed, we will make a competitive offer based on the current market value of your coins.
Honest Valuations
First and foremost, we will provide an honest valuation of your coin(s) or collection. Three factors drive our valuations: rarity, condition, and most importantly, historical prices paid.
Coin pricing books and most online resources tend to set unrealistic expectations for sellers. They notoriously inflate values in an attempt to drive the market higher. In reality, your coins are only worth what the buying market is currently paying. In some instances, coins may only be worth the precious metals they might contain.
To that end, analyzing recent ‘closed’ sales is vital to understanding what buyers have recently paid to own a particular coin. Auction houses like Great Collections, Heritage, and eBay publish closed transactions. We highly recommend reviewing these resources; it is how we approach any valuation.
We Consign Coins
We can make you an outright offer, work on a consignment basis, or agree to a combination of both. ProDetecting has relationships with all major auction houses and, several well-established direct sale platforms. Selling through consignment is typically appropriate for higher value rarities.
After your coin(s) are evaluated, we will recommend price points and appropriate sale platforms. We also handle all aspects of any coin grading that may be warranted.
Sensible Guidance
Ignoring its overall condition, your coin might be in one of two states: raw or ‘slabbed’. A raw coin is one that has not been authenticated and graded. It may be in a small plastic capsule, a 2 x 2 carboard coin flip, or in a display book.
A ‘slabbed’ coin has been graded by a Third-party Coin Grading service (TPG) like PCGS, NGC, ANACS, or CAC. The TPG guarantees the coin to be genuine, they assign a grade based on condition, and they place it in a tamper-resistant holder.
A slabbed coin will almost always command a much higher price when compared to a raw coin. However, grading has an associated cost and is not prudent for the vast majority of raw coins. Once a raw coin’s estimated value approaches a certain amount, grading may be cost effective. Recommendations on grading candidates is part of our valuation process.
